Zach's invesgitation of how each enzymatic activity of both ExoS and ExoT influence bacterial internalzation, and more importantly, what the bacteria then do after, was published in Infection and Immunity! TLDR: a population that remains T3SS-off population are the only contenders to invade epithelial cells. Once there, they remain T3SS-off and trapped in a vacuole, unless extracellular bacteria inject ExoS. Then they can, in turn, activate their own T3SS and hyper-replicate in the cytoplasm. Check it out here!
